Brrr still a bit nippy outside isn't it? Brave the last weeks of winter with some new coffee in your daily routine. We round up five independent coffeemakers, all bound to put a spring into your step.
Quirky Monkey Lion’s Mane Coffee Infusion - Editor's Pick

This new coffee brand Quirky Monkey has a nootropic Lion’s Mane mushroom coffee infusion. Their Arabica coffee beans are ethically sourced from Brazil has been infused with pure mushroom extracts of Lion's Mane plus Ashwagandha, Raw Cacao, Maca Root, and C8 MCT Oil – to give you added benefits including boosted cognitive function, increased energy levels, and reduced anxiety. Lion’s mane mushrooms were discovered centuries ago by Buddhist monks, and they continue to be used in traditional medicine to date.
This coffee has a lovely, sweet aroma and I absolutely felt I could concentrate more and was more productive after each cup.
Power up your day with the Quirky Monkey range. They also have mushroom hot chocolate and mushroom tea varieties.

Paddy & Scott’s

Paddy & Scott’s three signature blends, ‘Wakey Wakey’, ‘Chit Chat’ and ‘Easy Days’, have recently become available to buy as whole bean. All of their coffee has been ethically sourced. They work with farmers and communities to ensure they are fairly rewarded for the crops they grow.
If you don't have a grinder at home, you can choose the ready-ground. We loved the bold and bright packaging and suggestions of the best time to enjoy each blend. Chit Chat - billed as an 'evening conversation catalyst' on the packet was a nice smooth tasting coffee with notes of cherry and salted caramel. A delicious after dinner coffee indeed!

John Farrer & Co

This online distributor is the UK’s oldest independent coffee roaster - operating for a whopping 205 years. John Farrer & Co was established in 1819 in the ancient market town of Kendal, by - you guessed it - a gentleman named John Farrer! John Farrer & Co offers a range of small-batch artisan products, crafted in their modern state-of-the-art roastery. We tried Farrer's No. 1 Blend, their signature brew. The Great Taste award-winning coffee is made from a mix of beans sourced from some of the world’s finest coffee regions, including Central and South America and Africa. It’s then roasted into a coffee with chocolate, nutty and citrus notes. Delish!

Ueshima Coffee Company

This Japanese coffee brand is on offer at several supermarket groups. We tried their Fuji Mountain – one for those who like a bold, strong coffee hit, and in contrast, their Tokyo Roast – which has a more mellow, smoother taste. The coffee is finely ground and easy to use in most types of coffee maker. They also have a subscription service so you can have your preferred type of coffee delivered just as that last cup runs out. Choose the mix and match option if you like a little variety and an element of surprise in your coffee drinking.

Exhale Coffee

Here’s a coffee brand with extra benefits. Created with help of NHS GP, Dr Rupy (The Doctor’s Kitchen), each of the Exhale range is rich in polyphenols. One cup of coffee has the equivalent to the amount of antioxidants you’d get from 12 punnets of blueberries. Exhale helps to reduce fatigue, combat stress, and improve functionality.
We particularly enjoyed the Exhale Organic Decaf with its notes of chocolate digestive, honeycomb and cherry. Here's the techy bit: the coffee has been created using pure water from glaciers on the highest mountain in Mexico to decaffeinate the bean without the chemicals associated with typical decaffeination.
