When it comes to luxurious gifts or treats for ourselves, we often reach for bespoke brownies and cakes. But with the festive season just around the corner, maybe it is time to try something new.
We take a bite out of Sur Chocolates' range of luxury alfajores and fall a little more in love with Dulce de Leche.
I will put my hands up. This was my first ever alfajores, and I'll let you into a little secret - it won't be my last. When it comes to sweet treats in the UK, this Argentinian luxury confectionary, up until now, has remained just below the radar. Always at the party, just not quite on the dance floor.
This was until Argentinian chocolatiers Maria and Emmanual brought their love of alfajores and phenomenal skills to the UK shores, creating Sur Chocolates. Not one to stay out of the limelight, they have mixed their love of traditional with a kick of contemporary, bringing a range of eclectic and modern flavours to this historical confection.
Their range includes flavours such as Lemon Pie, Malbec and Yerba Mate, with 70% and 85% chocolate used. Sur Chocolates also cater to both Vegan and Gluten Free customers. They also come with a shelf life of 4 weeks, so there is no need to rush.
I was blown away instantly by the flavours and textures of these beautiful treats. Sweet, but not too sweet and balanced to perfection. They are the perfect size for an indulgent treat or to share with a loved one. And unless you have an immense sweet tooth, there is no chance of binging these, as one is enough.
What sets Sur Chocolates apart from the competition is Maria's craftsmanship. I challenge anyone reading to open a box and not gasp. You have been delivered art. And great art comes from love and respect; you can honestly sense this from the moment you open the tin.
These alfajores need, and deserve, to be respected. They also need the recognition they so rightly deserve. So the next time you are looking for a sweet gift for a friend or family member or want to impress this festive season, try something new.
Because Sur Chocolates are at the party and they want to dance.
