Review: Zuaya

From the moment you step into Zuaya you are encompassed in decadence, from the incredibly well-stocked cocktail bar to the gorgeous ceiling foliage; this restaurant is worthy of its location in Kensington. We attended on a dreary Wednesday evening and the place was vibrant and buzzing, contrary to the miserable weather outside. I feel as though Zuaya has really brought a taste of Latin America to London.

Now on to the food. It was colourful, vibrant and utterly delicious!

To start we enjoyed guacamole and sweet potato chips that where delightfully moreish and perfect to pick at whilst your tapas arrives. The pork belly patacones were superbly crisp and hearty. As for the lamb taco, I could have eaten several! Juicy, meaty and very tender.

For the fish and sea food dishes we tried both the tuna tiradito with yuzu and mango and the grilled octopus with baked sweet potato. The Tuna was stunning, absolutely gorgeous in colour and the citrus flavours really complimented the dish as a whole – most certainly a show stopper!

As for the grilled octopus, it’s so easy to overcook, however the octopus was cooked to perfection, the combination of the sweet potato and the slightly salty flavours was heavenly.

The meat dishes consisted of grilled Iberian pork with butternut squash along with the wild rice, shiitake mushroom and confit duck. Both of these were incredibly flavourful, with the duck and it’s sweet undertones taking centre stage. The pork felt like an incredibly decadent dish, made to be enjoyed as the main attraction, perfectly tender and moist.

Finally, dessert. The passion fruit brûlée – this was gorgeous! I could have bathed in it, incredibly thick and creamy, a perfect end to a perfect meal.

Zuaya is very deserving of its spot in Kensington, if you find yourself looking for a special occasion restaurant, head to Zuaya – you won’t regret it.
