Move over Margs, the Dirty Martini is back.... our recent visit to Three Sheets in Soho confirms it.
Despite only being a month into the opening, this bar should be on everyone’s Soho, London list.
Three Sheets is the invention of brothers Max & Noel Venning who have already received global attention for their drinks including a spot in the coveted World's 50 Best Bars and Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Awards.
Following the original opening of Dalston bar Three Sheets, this second site is on Manette Street, just off Greek Street.
Bagging a visit, I skipped off post-work to find it.
The narrow cocktail bar is bright and bijou and was brimming with guests on our mid-week evening visit. A laidback soundtrack and lots of chatter from fellow drinkers make for an intimate spot for a catch-up. The only snag is once you start working your way through the drinks list it’s hard to tear yourself away.
Comfortably in my seat, and studying the cocktail list, I looked around at the medley of martinis and realised dirty was the only way to go.
Somewhat a signature, this Three Sheets (Dirty) Martini is as dirty as they come, made with Belvedere vodka, Picpoul, and muddled with Koseret tea and olive oil.
We also had a classy version of a Paloma, made up of Volcan tequila, Mexican oregano, verbena berry, dhania and grapefruit soda, served up in that signature pink hue.
More creative still was the Mango Ice Tea - a heady concoction of pickled mango infused with Lapsang tea and rum and topped with a heart-shaped tiny piece of mango.
Closely following the Dirty Martini, my second star of the night was the White Russian. Coffee-infused vodka with added miso to give the sweetness some contrast, and garnished with a honeycomb. A liquid dessert of great proportions!
A small menu of bar snacks and burgers from chef and butcher William Blank (previously at Lyle's) is also on the menu. We had some olives and some triple-cooked chips, to accompany our drinks.
This is a welcome addition to the Soho drinks scene. Just make sure you order a Dirty Martini if you want in with the crowd.
